Application information

Thank you for your interest in the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Internal Medicine Residency program. We are the main program affiliated with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. All applications are processed through The Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®) and we participate in the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®).

2024 Interview dates for the 2024-2025 Application Cycle:

November 1, 4, 8, 11, 15, 18 (2024)
December 6, 9, 13, 16 (2024)

In accordance with AAIM and AAMC recommendations, interviews will be 100% virtual. We review applications holistically without specific score cutoffs. Applications must be submitted via ERAS and those received via e-mail are NOT reviewed.

Applicant Requirements:

  • ERAS Application - Program IDs

    • Internal Medicine (Categorical) - 1104140C0

    • Internal Medicine (Funded) - if your home institution or country is funding the position - 1104140C1

    • Internal Medicine (Harrington) - 1104140C2

    • Internal Medicine (Urban Health) - 1104140C3

    • Internal Medicine (3-yr MD Path) - special: for select individuals accepted to advanced fellowships - 1104140C4

  • 2 to 3 Letters of Recommendation – For US graduates, one letter should be from the Department Chair/Clerkship Director/similar position, or anyone who can attest to your internal medicine performance.

  • We do not have specific score requirements for USMLE Step 1 (prior to pass/fail change of scoring) or Step 2.

  • Signaling may factor into the decision to extend an interview, but is not required.


 For International Medical Graduate Applicants:

  • ECFMG Certification (Full or Provisional) - For interview selection, it is preferred but not mandatory. It is a requirement prior to the ranking deadline.   • U.S. Clinical experience (includes observerships) - not required.

  • Visa Sponsorship – The institution sponsors J-1 visas only.

  • Time since graduation - we do not have specific requirements but prefer less than 5 years. All post-graduation activity is reviewed and evaluated.

  • Signaling may factor into the decision to extend an interview, but is not required.

There are a number of reserved categorical slots for applicants from Latin America and the Caribbean who require a J-1 visa, as a part of the William J. Harrington Program (Latin American Program). Applicants meeting these criteria are encouraged to apply to the Harrington Program track in ERAS.

Jackson Memorial Hospital provides a competitive annual salary with an increase each residency year. Specifics are negotiated yearly between the Committee for Interns and Residents (CIR) and the institution. The collective bargaining agreement between the parties is public and can be found HERE. Updated benefit package information will be available later in the application season.

  • PGY1 salary effective October 2024: $68,728 annual pay

  • Annual professional allowance of $2,500

  • Additional pay if called in to work extra shifts on nights or weekends (as part of “pull list” or jeopardy call)

  • Annual meal allowance of $1500 at Jackson, with additional stipend at UM Hospital cafeteria

  • PGY-1 Step 3 fee Reimbursed by the hospital (for those staying at Jackson beyond PGY1 year; must be taken in first 18 months of training)

  • CIR and program-specific funding opportunities for conference and research

  • Initial ACLS/BLS certifications reimbursed by the hospital

  • Medical Spanish course available to incoming interns

  • Reduced monthly parking <$11/month

  • Medical & Dental Insurance, Vision, Mental Health, Disability, and supplemental life Insurance plans are available

  • 3 scrubs and 3 lab coats annually

  • 28 vacation days (2 x 2 week blocks), 14 sick days, multiple wellness half days each year
