  • Signaling: Due to very high application volumes which continue to increase every year, we highly encourage you to signal our program if you are genuinely interested. Applications with signals will be prioritized in our review process. Applications without signals may not be reviewed. Gold signals will be weighed more heavily than silver signals. Signaling does not guarantee an invitation to interview. University of Miami medical students and graduates interested in our program should signal but this also does not guarantee an interview.

Additional information for International Medical Graduate Applicants:

  • ECFMG Certification (Full or Provisional) - For interview selection, it is preferred but not mandatory. It is a requirement prior to the ranking deadline. For information related to the several pathways for ECFMG certification, review the ECFMG Certification Requirements for the Match (outside link).

  • U.S. Clinical experience (includes observerships) - not required.

  • Visa Sponsorship – The institution sponsors J-1 visas only.

  • Time since graduation - we do not have specific requirements but prefer less than 5 years. All post-graduation activity is reviewed and evaluated.

  • Step 3 is not required at the time of application and does not currently factor into our rubric when reviewing applications.

There are a number of reserved categorical slots for applicants from Latin America and the Caribbean who require a J-1 visa, as a part of the William J. Harrington Program (Latin American Program). Applicants meeting these criteria are encouraged to apply to the Harrington Program track in ERAS.
